Sew Easy Refashion

This is another refashion I did while in Illinois. I did this one for my mom, she has loved everything Ive made for myself, so I knew she needed something too. I did make her a market tote, she loves it, for going to the farmers market. Its hard not being close to my mom and being able to jump in the car and show her what I have done. So every time I make something, she is the first person who gets to see it, through a picture on her phone. Now on to the making of the refashioned shirt. I am sorry I don't have step by step pictures, If you have any questions please email me.... Sewstylishboutique.etsy@gmail.com

Here is what you will need:
Sewing machine
Thread
Scissors
Tshirt

First start by cutting both sleeves off and the collar off at the seams.

Next you will inside your shirt out, and cut the top of the shoulder right by the seam. Then fold each one down, about an inch on either side, and sew a stitch. Now you should have two casings on each shoulder. Now take the sleeves you cut off and cut two one inch width strips. These will then be feed through the casings on the shoulder and tie on the outside. You can tie it how ever you want, a bow or just make a knot and cut the strings off.

Try your shirt on. If it needs to be adjusted go for it. We decided to put a small slit in the front. Just to give it that last little touch!

So simple!!!

Sweet Verbena: Simple Bow Tie Top

I found this tutorial, the Simple Bow Tie Top over at Sweet Verbena. I loved it the moment I saw it and just had to make it. I had everything on hand except some fabric for the straps which also make the bow.

It was so simple to follow and to make, I now want to make a dress the same way. When I went to Illinois, I found some fabric for .50 cents a yard!! I only bought 4 yards but I should have probably bought the whole bolt. Oh well, I have 3 yards to make something with. So back to my point, Alexandria my brothers girlfriend sewed when she was in 4 - H and she happen to have her machine handy. So, with me walking her through every step she made one too, with the .50 cent fabric I found.

I really think this is a good sewing project if you are just starting out or just getting back into sewing. Check out all of Katy's other tutorials, she does a wonderful job on explaining and what she comes up with just amazes me! I have this top on my list to make, have all the supplies ready, just need to make it.

We just wanted to also remind everyone that we are having a sale in our Etsy Store, Sew Stylish Boutique.. use coupon code blog25 and receive 25% off anything in our store!

Summer Tops #4

Here is a top that Rose made, she just took a shirt that she already owned, made a pattern to make this top. I love it, its so simple cute and fun! It can be dressed up and or down. That's the kind of tops that are nice to own.

This Romper was easy to make, I did use a pattern, but after making it, it would be so easy to make again without a pattern. I got this pattern on a $1.99 sale at Joanns awhile back.
If your a beginner at sewing, this would be a nice pattern to try out.

And as always, Stay Tuned, we have more!

Easy Peasy T Refashion

OK so the picture you see above is an after thought.  The one below was the original design of the shirt refashion.  After I made the original shirt I did not like it as much. So I worked on it some more.  But there is minimal sewing.  Just a needle and thread.

A medium size shirt. I a got for 50 cents at Crafts 2000.  Cut it down the middle.

Then cut a a V shape up the bottom of the shirt to right below the bust. Cut the collar off the shirt and then a V in to the neck line.  The two V shapes meet at a point just below the bust line.

To make the sleeves cut from the under arms up and out then cut the point off the tip of the sleeve.

At the front of the shirt where the two points of the shirt meet cut a slit in one point and a small hole in the center of the other point.

Now take the slit and place one half it the hole of the other half of the shirt.

using a needle and thread sew the two points of the slit together on the inside of the shirt.

That is it for the the shirt in the original form.  But to make the shirt a tank top as I did you just cut the sleeves off, cut them deep in to the back of the shirt and then take some scrap fabric left from the sleeves of the shirt and tie it around the back and the shoulders. That is it, so easy.  Hope you enjoy this refashion.

Summer Top #3

Here it is the 3rd top for us! This one was also out of the One Yard Wonders book, it's the belted tunic.
What do you think? It is a very comfortable top and such an easy pattern. This will be made again!

Rose did her tunic shorter and I made mine by what the book said, I like them both ways, its even cute without the belt. I have fabric in mind to make myself a shorter one too.

Rose and I now own this book, Thanks so much Linda!!!
There is so much in this book that we want to do, just going to take some time to get it all done.
We highly recommend this book! It even comes with patterns.

Stay tuned... for MORE!

Tshirt + Fabric = ReFashion

This refashion took me longer than it really should have. But I finally got it the way I wanted and here is how it was done.

I took my shirt and folded it in half and made a crease with my iron.

Along that crease cut up your shirt. Leave 6 to 7 inches between your cut and collar.

I then determined how much fabric I needed to cut. You will need a triangle cut, and about 2 inches longer in length so you make a hem at the bottom. Also give yourself enough for a seam allowance on the sides, and the point of the triangle.

Fold your end up once, iron, then fold it again and iron.

Sew a straight stitch

Here is my triangle with the hem.

Now pin your shirt and fabric together. I started at the bottom of the shirt on each side and worked my way up.

Once its pinned go ahead and sew up either side.

This is for the sleeves. Make a little bit of bias tape. I only needed about 6 inches.

Cut the collar, and sleeves off you shirt right at the seams.

Next try on your shirt. See if you want to take it in at all on the sides. I ended up taking my in about 2 inches on both sides. The way I did this was by marking an inch and drawing a line and pinning the sides together so it wouldn't move as I was sewing. Then also used the line as a guide.

Now for the shoulders, I took the bias tape and sewed it on the hem of the shoulder, just on the outsides. Once I did that I turned my ends to the inside. Had them overlap just a tad and zig zaged stitched right in the center.

There you go a new tank top for summer.
